How it’s made

The Tornado fidget, from file to finished part.

  1. Step 1

    Model

Every piece starts as a 3D file: the exact shape, down to a tenth of a millimetre.

Wireframe of the Tornado fidget as a 3D model
  2. Step 2

    Slice

Slicing software cuts that shape into hundreds of thin layers and plans every move the nozzle makes.

  3. Step 3

    Print

The printer lays down melted plastic one 0.2 mm layer at a time, from the plate up. Those fine lines you can feel are the layers.

  4. Step 4

    Done

Off the plate, checked over, and on my table at the next market.
